My Style
Hoe een stijl te definiëren? Als mystiek en symbolen het leitmotiv zijn en alleen de essentie van belang is?
Als het zowel mystiek, symbolisch, conceptueel digitaal is?
Omdat ik de afbeeldingen maak zoals ze zijn moet het ook mogelijk zijn de stijl om te zetten in woorden, vandaar de titel dConcepts/Myths &Symbols.
Het idee kwam op bij het schilderen van Japanse helmen, op een gegeven moment was er tussen de uitsteeksels een ovaal kleurvlak, dit deed mij onmiddellijk denken aan de Egyptische zonnegod Ra.
Dit leidde tot het idee dat het mystieke het leitmotiv moest worden. Bij samoerai helmen komt de mystiek uit het dierenrijk, de langwerpige vormen aan de helmen vinden o.a. hun oorsprong in vleugels, kammen en/of kuiven van vogels, antennes van insecten en geweien en hoorns van herten.
Het is een feit dat de toepassing van vormen uit de natuur en cosmos in de meeste culturen in een conceptuele vorm worden toegepast. Evenzo geldt dit, mutatis mutandis, voor mijn grafieken, het is niet de intentie de werkelijkheid als zodanig weer te geven, maar de mystiek ervan te benadrukken en dan in een compacte, dus conceptuele vorm.
Het was de bedoeling een serie samurai helmen als onderwerp te nemen en uit te breiden met allerlei historische helmen, meest van Europese oorsprong. Ik begon bij de helm van de antiek Griekse hopliet, omdat in die periode ook de oorsprong van het moderne Europa ligt. Uiteindlijk leidde dit tot de Europese Unie als voornaamste onderwerp.
Mystiek, symbolisme en conceptualisme zijn in meerdere of mindere mate van ook toepassing bij de serie GraphiXs.

If it is both mystical, symbolic, conceptual and digital?
As I made very specific depictions its style should be able to be expressed in words, thus the term dConcepts/Myths&Symbols came into being.
The idea occurred while painting samurai helmets, at a certain moment there was, between the protrusions of a helmet, an oval shaped area. This reminded me immediately of the Egyptian sun god Ra and led to the idea that mysticism should be the leading theme.
The mysticism of samurai helmets originates mostly from animals such as wings and crests of birds, antennae of insects, antlers and horn of deer.
It is a fact that shapes from nature and cosmos in most cultures are used in a more or less conceptual way. This also applies, mutatis mutandis, to my graphics. Reality is not the intention, but to emphasize the mysticism in a compact, thus conceptual and symbolic manner.
It was the intention to create a series of samurai helmets and eventually extend it to other historic helmets, mostly European. I started with the helmet of the ancient Greek hoplite because in that era lays the origin of modern Europe.
This led eventually to the idea to symbolize the countries of the European Union in a number of ways.
Mysticism, conceptualism and symbolism applies more or less to the GraphiXs series as well.
